Instructions for Trailer Body Maintenance

Body of the Trailer

As the cargo utility trailers have to undergo a lot of abuse on the road,
periodic checking is needed to look for chipping away of the paint, dents etc.

Inspect roof for leaks. Don’t let any snow stay on the roof. Always close your roof vents while towing the trailer.

For proper maintenance of floor you may get in painted with quality enamel paint.

Always lubricate your door hinges with good quality grease or engine oil.

Wheels and bearings

Periodically check the torque of wheels on the axle. The wheels should be properly balanced on the axle.

While tightening of the bots of wheel, remember to tighten them in diagonal fashion i.e., always tighten the bolts in pair.

It is important to keep your wheels clean at all times. Your brakes will cause the wheels to heat up, and this heat in turn can cause any dirt or brake dust to cook in to the clear coat.

Axle

Clean spindle with solvent to remove old grease. Inspect the spindle for nicks and damages. Clean bearings with solvent and long bristled brush never use air to remove the grease. Always apply grease on bearings in form of a thin film.

EZ-Lune Hubs

Lube hubs need to be replaced every 12 months or 12,000 miles. Check the Dexter Service Manual for recommended wheel bearing lubrication specifications.

Tires

All your trailer tires should be the same type, size, and construction.

Always maintain proper tire pressure for your trailer tires as well as for your tow vehicles. Replace Worn out tire should be replaced as soon as possible. The tire you replace should have the designated specifications.

Check tire inflation and tread wear often. Remember — your tow vehicle tires may require a higher tire pressure for towing, especially heavy loads.

Jack

Lubricate your jack with needle nose applicatorThe internal gearing and bearings of the jack must be kept lubricated. The lubrication opening can be found on the side of the jack tube, directly below the handle. You need to apply grease through a needle nose applicator. Rotate the jack handle to distribute the grease evenly.

The jack handle should also be lubricated using a lightweight oil at both ends of the outer tube.
